 Burnley Football Club nicknamed The Clarets by fans, are a professional English football club based in Burnley, Lancashire. They were founder members of The Football League in 1888.[1] The club colours are claret and blue, and their home ground since 1883 has been Turf Moor. Burnley have been Football League Champions twice, in 1920–21[2] and 1959–60,[3] and have won the FA Cup once, in 1914.

The Clarets also reached the 1961 quarter-finals of the European Cup. They are one of only three teams to have won all top four professional divisions of English football. The other two teams are Preston North End and Wolverhampton Wanderers. The club has spent most of its history in England's top two divisions, but remained outside the top flight from 1976 to 2009.

From 1985 to 1992 they had a seven-year spell in the lowest tier of the Football League. In 1987 they narrowly avoided relegation to the Conference. Between 2000 and 2009 they played in the second tier of English football, until they gained promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 33 years after winning the 2009 Championship Play-off Final. First established by secondary school teachers, Burnley Basketball have been in existence since the 1950s. The club was established primarily as a recreation focused club throughout its history providing opportunities for all in the Burnley and East Lancashire area. Burnley has competed both locally in the Lancashire league since the sixties and the Manchester League since the late seventies. The last ten years has seen Burnley develop as a club and is now a recognised England Basketball three star club.

Central to this development has been the provision of basketball opportunities for young people in basketball. The clubs youth teams now include under 12, 14, 16 and 18 teams that compete in both local and national competitions. Many of these players have represented Lancashire and have progressed through to the Manchester League Senior Team. This team has had recent success being a long established member of the Premier Division while winning the MABL Cup in 2008.

The club is based at Shuttleworth College, Padiham, Burnley and in this venue provides both recreational and performance basketball opportunities. Well supported by local sponsors, educational establishments parents and basketball players Burnley Basketball is a friendly club which a level of basketball suit everyone.

Burnley & Pendle Ramblers Group -

The Burnley & Pendle ramblers group operates within the boroughs of Burnley and Pendle, encompassing Barnoldswick and Earby, Colne, Nelson, Brierfield and Padiham all areas of beautiful countryside. Walking with your local ramblers group is a great way to explore your local environment. Ramblers walk leaders often know how to get to the most interesting places so you can enjoy all the benefits of walking without the worries of getting lost or having to plan a route.

The group's officer's look after the local footpath network reporting obstructions, opposing closures, helping to keep paths waymarked and clear of undergrowth and negotiating with statutory bodies where special problems or developments occur. The group has a varied programme with afternoon walks and full day rambles on most weekends throughout the year. Every other Tuesdays there is a local walk plus each Wednesday evening (Easter to September) there are additional walks.

Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the beauty of your own locality with friendly company. Strong shoes or boots and a waterproof are highly recommended for all walks. We also have a good social programme with dances, days out, weekends and slide shows. As a registered charity the ramblers operate both on a local and National level and aims to encourage walking, protect and maintain rights of way, increase access and defend the beauty of the open countryside.
